Enhance passive fire protection with our reliable customized intumescent strips, ideal for fire and smoke sealing
in application of gun safes, fire safes, fire doors, fire windows, construction penetration.
Gun safes are not only about locks and steel walls—fire protection matters just as much. Installing intumescent strips around the safe door is an effective way to improve fire resistance. When exposed to heat, intumescent strips expand to form a dense barrier that blocks flames, smoke, and toxic gases.
Using an intumescent seal inside a gun safe also improves day-to-day protection. A quality intumescent seal enhances airtightness, reduces dust and moisture entry, and works as a critical backup defense in fire events.

Fire doors are a vital part of passive fire protection, but they only perform well when properly sealed. Installing intumescent strips along the edges of a fire door ensures that in case of fire, the strips expand rapidly to fill gaps. This swelling effect blocks flames, smoke, and hot gases, helping to slow fire spread and protect escape routes.
High-quality fire door strips not only provide fire resistance but also improve day-to-day performance by enhancing airtightness and reducing sound transfer. By combining durable construction with reliable intumescent strips, fire doors can achieve higher safety ratings and give building occupants valuable extra time in an emergency.

The bottom of a door is often the most vulnerable area to fire and smoke infiltration. To achieve a reliable seal, the following specialized hardware is intentionally combined:
Automatic Door Bottoms (Door Sweeps): These are the most effective way to seal the threshold. Upon closing, the sweep automatically drops to block gaps. This creates a high-performance fire and smoke seal that significantly reduces the spread of drafts, noise, and toxic fumes…
Electrical systems are often weak points in fire safety, especially where switches, cables, and wall penetrations are installed. By applying intumescent strips around electrical Flush Boxes and cable entries, the material expands when exposed to high heat. This swelling action closes gaps, acting as a fire smoke seal that blocks flames, smoke, and hot gases from spreading through walls and conduits.
In addition to switches and cables, wall penetrations also require sealing for full protection. Installing intumescent strips and related passive fire materials around these areas ensures compliance with fire safety standards while extending the critical evacuation time during a fire.

Passive Fire Sealing Solutions for Marine Electrical and Bulkhead Systems
Marine electrical systems and bulkhead penetrations are often critical weak points in vessel fire safety. By applying RESSASEAL intumescent strips around cable trays and electrical enclosures, the material rapidly expands when exposed to extreme heat. This swelling action completely closes gaps, acting as a robust fire smoke seal that actively blocks flames, toxic smoke, and hot gases from spreading between cabins and conduits.

A safe is an effective tool for protecting valuables and important documents, but many people overlook its ability to protect against fire. Although some safes are fire resistant, they can be much less effective without the protection of a fire-resistant intumescent seal. This article will explain why your safe needs fire-resistant intumescent seals.
The role of fire-resistant intumescent seals
A fire-resistant intumescent seal will expand rapidly at high temperatures to seal the doorway of the safe, preventing flames, smoke and high temperatures from entering the safe and protecting the contents from fire. It can form an effective barrier to prevent heat and harmful substances from seeping in when fire occurs.
Enhanced Fire Resistance
Although most safes claim to be fireproof, the fireproof effect is often insufficient without fireproof intumescent seals. The addition of sealing strips can improve the fire rating of the safe, extend the survival time of the items and ensure better protection in case of fire.
Protecting Valuables
In a fire, temperature and smoke pose a threat to the contents of the safe, especially paper documents and electronic equipment. Fire retardant intumescent seals can effectively slow down the conduction of high temperature, reduce the damage of fire to the items, and increase the survival time of the valuables.
Separate smoke and moisture
In addition to fire protection, fireproof intumescent seals can also effectively isolate smoke and moisture, preventing harmful substances from entering the safe during a fire, further protecting the contents of the safe.

1. RYZW is the trade name RESSA give to ‘Hydrated Sodium Silicate’ which expands when exposed to
high temperatures.RYZW is driven by the water boiling, creating course steam blisters as the
material expands.
2. Graphite has many forms: RESSA RPB graphite based intumescent seal is driven by chemical
reaction, giving a longer and more controllable expansion. Graphites in today’s markets are variable
in the pressure formulation and can be almost prescribed to suit, a feature RYZW simply cannot
match.
Intumescent materials are a core component of passive fire protection, and can be categorised as
substances that swell when exposed to heat. This reaction is used to great effect in order to seal
penetrations in otherwise fire resistant walls, floors and ceilings. An intumescent strip (or intumescent
seal) is a piece of material fitted around a doorway that when exposed to heat, expands closing any gaps
around the door to stop the fire spreading for a period of time….
This is why it’s best to have your fire doors fitted with intumescent seals that can stop both fire and
smoke. These act to provide an additional role to reduce the sound which can travel between the door
and frame, or door and floor. Uninterrupted intumescent strips should be fitted into the frame or lining,
where possible. If this cannot be achieved, the intumescent seals may be fitted into the door edge.
In essence, all intumescent do the same job, but not necessarily in the same way. You’ll need to know
which specifications you require; consult our technical team to discuss this area in depth at

In the event of a serious fire, fire doors are one of the most important components in ensuring safe exit,
containing the fire and saving lives. But they can be rendered useless by not using the correct
components including intumescent strip. Gaps around the four sides of a fire door leaf are essential, it is
the only way the door can open and close. But these gaps create a point of weakness, where fire can
take hold and destroy the door, and toxic and smoke can pass through. RESSA intumescent strip works
by sealing around the edges and gaps of a fire door and door frames in the event of a fire.
Over-painting of intumescent seals should not compromise performance in a fire situation – however,do not paint over smoke seals as this will certainly compromise smoke containment performance. If thesmoke seal part of the seal has already been painted over, you will need to replace the smoke seal. Our seals are available in a range of colours, plus woodgrain and metallic finishes, so over-painting shouldnot be necessary.
Usuallly for the gun safes and fire safes, we suggest both intumescent fire strips and waterproof seals.
